The Game - Jesus Piece

Having written my article on the top 10 hip hop albums of 2012 last week, I wish I’d waited as The Game’s fifth album entitled Jesus Piece is set to drop tomorrow and has already leaked.

Having downloaded the leak and listened through a couple of times, I think it’s safe to say that Jesus Piece deserved a top 3 spot in my previous list (if not the top spot itself).

Having seen the tracklist to the album before listening I was worried that it was laden with features and that Game himself may not be the main focus of the album. With 25 features in total and only two solo songs, it would appear that Game wanted to get this album out of the way quickly so as to end his deal with Interscope and sign with, possibly, Cash Money (see the track freedom).

If the album was rushed, I would like to see what Game has in store for the future when he spends time on an album, because JP is brilliant. The album opens with a Meek Mill featured track called Scared Now, the beat contains an eerie synth, reminiscent of a church organ, mixed with some heavy bass and a quiet snare clap. This style of production continues throughout most of the album, deep beats with an odd religious sense to them. The Game talks a lot on the album about how he considers himself underrated and one of the top 5 rappers dead or alive and whilst listening to this album, it’s hard to disprove him.

Although there are a lot of guest appearances, Game stands his ground on all of the tracks and the features are just that, guests. The only tracks where Game is possibly overshadowed are See No Evil featuring Kendrick Lamar, who drops possibly his hottest verse of the year, and Celebration where there are so many features it’s hard to name the best! The features are very well chosen, every one a big name in the industry and every one placed on a track with complementary artists to themselves.

Overall, Jesus Piece is definitely Game’s best album, and with so many features it would be hard for any hiphop head not to like at least 1/2 of the album. Personally I love every track and every feature and none of it will be skipped when played. Additionally, even though I downloaded the free leak, I’ll certainly be supporting Game by buying the album tomorrow when it drops.

Best tracks: See No Evil, All That (Lady), Pray, Name Me King

I never used to be much of a Jordan fan, I always preferred a nice crisp pair of Jeremy Scott x Adidas  kicks or some skate shoes, like Supras.
But recently I’ve grown a passion for Js. And these are all I want for Christmas.

2 Chainz - G.O.O.D Morning

Yesterday 2 Chainz dropped a solo version for the GOOD Music anthem “The Morning” that he featured on back in September. Tity Boi’s verse on the original song was cut down to only 12 seconds long, so this extended version is a nice surprise for 2 Chainz fans. Whether you like 2 Chainz or not, you can’t deny his lyrics are hilarious and his flow his crazy. Plus he even managed to rhyme evident with pregnant.

I’m so high, nigga I could talk to rain // My outfits insane, ain’t that evident? // My chain had another chain like it was preg-e-nant!

Anyway, download the song here
